Role Overview:
The Transport Engineers of MCAV will join the MCAV Urban Autonomoy team, focusing on development, validation, and testing of our full scale autonomous vehicles (Renault Twizy and Nissan ENV-200).
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Research Australian Design Rules (ADR), Victorian road regulations, and relevant autonomous vehicle standards.
- Develop test cases and validation scenarios for autonomous vehicle functions and behaviours.
- Create simulation environments using MATLAB, Simulink, and RoadRunner to evaluate vehicle performance under realistic operating conditions.
- Design and maintain a virtual “sandbox city” containing road networks, traffic interactions, environmental conditions, and hazards.
- Develop testing roadmaps outlining verification requirements for MCAV autonomous vehicle platforms.
- Investigate emerging topics including smart infrastructure integration, temporary traffic management scenarios, and commercialisation challenges for autonomous vehicles.
Who we are looking for:
Requirements:
- Current undergraduate or postgraduate student in Civil Engineering, Transport Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong interest in intelligent transport systems, autonomous vehicles, or transport technology.
- Understanding of road design principles, traffic engineering, or transport planning concepts.
- Ability to analyse technical standards, regulations, and engineering documentation.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to learn simulation and modelling tools used in autonomous vehicle development (primarily MATLAB, no autonomous algorithms will need to be written - this is our software branch!).
Preferred Experience:
